16-20 hours of power cuts irk masses

LAHORE- Duration of loadshedding has increased from 16 to 20 hours daily amid scorching heat and masses have been suffering due to
prolonged power outages during the month of Ramazan.
The demand and supply gap forced electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) to carry out load shedding even during the time of Iftar and Sehri. Overload on the distribution system was also causing frequent breakdowns in many cities and towns.
The government had promised to the people that uninterrupted electricity supply would be ensured during Iftar and Sehri times but the demand spike frustrated the government plans.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif last year campaigned with the promise to end the electricity crisis and won the elections. Pakistan has been in the grip of severe energy crisis and successive governments have failed to solve the problem.
