Greater Pak-US co-op vital for peace: Nisar

ISLAMABAD - Interior Minister Ch. Nisar in a meeting with US Principal Deputy Special Representative to Pakistan and Afghanistan discussed the progress of different working groups operating under the ongoing Strategic Dialogue between Pakistan and the US.
It was also agreed in the meeting that the inter-ministerial meeting in this regard would be convened in near future. US Principal Deputy Special Representative to Pakistan and Afghanistan, Ambassador Elizabeth Jones, called on Nisar here on Tuesday.
The meeting discussed the overall geo-political situation of the region, which was also attended by US Deputy Ambassador to Pakistan Thomas Williams. The minister said that greater cooperation and coordination between Pakistan and US was important for regional peace and security. He expressed his confidence that the international community would be conscious of the interests of Pakistan especially in the Post-2014 scenario.
He said that Afghanistan was passing through crucial part of its history and hoped that there would be the positive outcome of Afghan elections, both for Afghanistan and for the entire region.
Nisar said that Pakistan government was committed to work closely with new incoming government in Kabul for regional peace and stability.
He said that it was very important for the success of ongoing military operation "Zarb-e-Azb" in North Waziristan that international forces and Afghanistan government also should take simultaneous concrete actions to root out the safe sanctuaries of terrorists operating in Afghan territory.
Expressing his satisfaction on bilateral relations, Nisar said that Pakistan was committed to further strengthening these relations based on mutual respect and understanding. Ambassador Elizabeth said that the US government was committed to further enhance its institutional support and cooperation in different fields especially in the fields of counter terrorism and policing. She also appreciated the role of Pakistan in regional peace and said that US viewed the government of Nawaz as a trusted and reliable partner for pursuit of peace and added that multi-faceted relations with Pakistan would further gain strength under his leadership.
