The other day a highly respected religious scholar, during a Ramzan TV show, while explaining masah over the socks, instead of washing the feet, during abolition said that as the air could not pass through the leather it was Okay to do masah over the socks, made of leather only but not of any other material like cotton, nylon, acrylic etc. I always thought that the leather was preferred in the shoe industry, all over the world simply because of its ability to breathe, that helps in keeping the feet dry which would otherwise stink obnoxiously due to sweating and breathing involves passing of the air in and out. Would a thick material socks, cotton or synthetic therefore, not do the same as the leather socks does and qualify for the performance of masah?
