Meanwhile, a good number of citizens yesterday staged a protest demonstration against Pirwadhai police at Chungi # 4 for not arresting the accused who allegedly tortured a lady tenant over issue of evacuation of the house.

The irate protesters, including females, males and children, also blocked the road for traffic and chanted slogans against police. They also demanded City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi to suspend Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station Chaudhry Riaz for backing the criminals who subjected the lady to torture.

According to sources and police, Samina Bibi, 26, lodged a complaint with PS Pirwadhai on July 13, 2016 that she had got a house on rent in Mohalla Quaidabad while her landlords Shohaib, Shahzeb and three ladies tortured her mercilessly on the issue of house rent.

Taking action, police summoned the accused and asked them to resolve issue through talks. However, both parties failed to reach any consensus on which SHO locked both the parties under section 107/151.

Later, a court granted bail to both parties, sources said adding that both parties again clashed with each other when the landlords asked Samina to evacuate the house.

On this, the landlords beat the lady who again approached police and lodged a complaint against them. They added that police brought the lady to hospital for MLR and booked the accused under sections 354/385/147/149 of PPC.

They said that the accused obtained pre-arrest bail from a court and cooperated with police in investigation. Nonetheless, Samina Bibi along with area people took to road and started protesting against police for not arresting the accused.

The protesters kept blocking the road for two hours. They chanted slogans against police and asked CPO to suspend SHO Pirwadhai accusing him of taking side of the landlords.

DSP Sardar Babar Mumtaz along with heavy contingent of police rushed to the scene and negotiated with the protesters. He also ensured the lady that police would arrest the accused once the court would cancel their bail.

SHO PS Pirwadhai, when contacted, said that Samina is pressurising police to arrest the accused which is illegal. He added that a man namely Sarwar, who is neighbour of Samina and has some dispute with Shoaib and Shahzeb, ignited Samina for protest against police. “Police have provided the lady with full justice,” he said.

On a query, SHO said doctors examined the lady applicant thoroughly and it was not proved that anybody put chillies into sensitive body organs of Samina or tried to rape her.

On the other hand, DSP Sardar Babar Mumtaz told media that police would interrogate the incident and would arrest the culprits.
