LAHORE - Central PPP leadership which gathered here on Sunday to pay tributes to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in connection with her birthday on June 21, expressed its concern over inordinate delay in bringing her killers to book and raising of a memorial at Liaquatbagh, Rawalpindi, where she embraced martyrdom on December 27, 2007. The PPP leaders, including party Secretary General Jehangir Badr, Senator Safdar Abbassi and his spouse Naheed Khan, demanded of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to name new Islamabad Airport after the name of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, which should be called as "Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Airport". They also called upon the prime minister to confer Nishan-e-Haider, country's biggest military award, on Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for her gallantry, commitment to the cause of democracy and the love she had for the countrymen. Peoples Labour Bureau had orgnised the seminar, which was also addressed by Haji Azizur Rehman Chan, Abdul Qadir Shaheen and Sajida Mir. Naheed Khan was visibly perturbed over what she called zero progress made towards exposing g the assassins of Mohtarma Bhutto. "Six months have lapsed since Mohtarma was martyred; the present government is also in power for the last over three months, and yet there is no clue about the culprits", she deplored and asked the prime minister to tell the reason behind this laxity towards this important issue. Naheed expressed her resentment the way party affairs were being run by party men who matter. "We would not sit idle and come in the open if some body tried to run the party against BB's mission", she threatened. She urged party leadership to address grievances of party workers at their doorsteps instead of making them visit the PM or Governor House. She said Benazir Bhutto's sacrifices, struggle for democracy and martyrdom would be remembered in the annals of history. Naheed Khan's spouse Senator Safdar Abbasi said if the party got deviated from Mohtarma's mission, the party as well as the country would suffer irreparable loss. In the absence of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, he said, the party workers felt shelterless He said party leadership should end this sense of deprivation among them. PPP Central Secretary General Jahangir Badr feared that some opportunists had entered the party, and asked party workers not to get disappointed over the development. "They would soon meet their end like previous opportunists", he assured. He said party would not arrange any cake cutting ceremonies this time to mark Mohtarma's birthday on June 21, and instead would do so some thing different. "Registers would be placed at all party offices, and party leaders including me and Asif Ali Zardari would write down with their own blood that we would avenge the murder of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto", he explained. According to him, Benazir Bhutto was assassinated just to annihilate PPP and uproot democracy from the country once for all.
