Supreme Court has rejected a government notification about appointment of Aftab Sultan, an Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP), Punjab, as inquiry officer in the Bank of Punjabs (BoP) loan scam. Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry in his remarks on Wednesday said the Establishment Division has appointed Aftab Sultan for assistance, while the Supreme Court had said that he will head and oversee the investigations. The Chief Justice said that the Supreme Court had decided in presence of Tariq Khosa that Aftab Sultan will oversee the NAB investigations, while the notification says that he will assist the NAB. The bench directed the Establishment Division to issue new notification about appointment of Aftab Sultan and adjourned the hearing of Punjab Bank fraud case till June 18.
