Slow and steady

Apropos to news that Indian fighter jets intruded three miles inside Pakistan air space and left after two minutes, without any encounter, is something very serious. In peace time, the reaction time is six minutes, to scramble our air force jets, in case of air space violation. Here is need to revisit our SOP on the subject in view of this experience. This happened when Indian delegation was having meeting with Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif to overcome energy and gas crisis. In another move, Indian media has been propagating that large number of Hindu and Sikh families are migrating from Pakistan to India, as the minorities feel unsafe in Pakistan. This is deliberate attempt on the part of Indians to defame Pakistan, and draw attention of international community, who are anyway very hostile to Pakistan, thus they are fanning the fire of resentment. Pakistan considers all minorities as citizens of Pakistan and allows freedom to openly practice their religion and cultural norms. On the other hand we keep harping on the tune of ‘Aman Ki Asha’ to receive periodic shocks in the shape of non-serious attitude on Kashmir dispute, Siachin issue, Sir Creek dispute, water terrorism, border incidents, air space violation, sending Raw agents in Balochistan and FATA to destabilize Pakistan, this type of attitude negates peaceful atmosphere between the two countries. It is true that our government has a soft corner for Indians, hoping that India would reciprocate our good intentions and resolve all outstanding issues, but their actions speak the reverse, therefore we have to move cautiously while dealing with India, as one sided good gestures and concessions may prove to be detrimental to our national interest that must supersede all other gains. LT COL (R) MUKHTAR AHMED BUTT, Karachi, June 12.
