Removing support for terrorists

No terrorist operation can be launched successfully without the direct support of elements in the targeted area. There are many fanatically disposed people, who are directly collaborating or supporting these terrorists. Their slogan of ‘Jihad’ is appealing for the uneducated fanatics and the very poor who are in large numbers in Pakistan. Semi-educated mullahs add to their strength. A large number of criminals have also penetrated these so called religious groups.
We cannot defeat the terrorists in FATA, without first eliminating their support in the big towns, where we must immediately find and destroy them. I fail to understand why the military minds, who believe in the strategy of direct approach, have not assertively suggested this to the civilian government? This of course requires elaborate and detailed planning. I recommend we start from Karachi, where we should concentrate all the intelligence resources and end the effort in FATA once and for all.
A resolute and concentrated military operation should be launched, even if we have to impose curfews in certain areas. There is the likelihood of some collateral damage, but in the larger interest of peace, stability and economic progress, we have to accept this. The nation needs leaders who can take quick decisive actions and finish this increasing trend of terrorism.
