NAB men tasked to complete high-profile probes in a month

ISLAMABAD - The National Accountability Bureau Rawalpindi has given a task to investigation officers to complete ongoing inquiries into high profile cases within a month, The Nation has learnt.

Sources in the bureau said that the NAB Rawalpindi has initiated investigations against some high-profile individuals including former president Pervez Musharraf, a federal minister for housing, an ambassador to Cuba and president of Bank of Punjab, former federal minister Anusha Rehman, Zulfi Bukhari, officials of Pakistan Sports Board. The sources said that the NAB Rawalpindi had started inquiries against Musharraf over the alleged misuse of authority and for possessing assets beyond known sources of income. The regional bureau has also authorized an inquiry against former federal minister for Housing and Works Akram Khan Durrani, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Pakistan Housing Authority (PHA) Foundation Jamil Ahmad Khan, company secretary Zafaryab Khan and others on charges of the misuse of authority. The accused were allegedly involved in illegal allotment of the land of PHA Foundation on Kuri Road and the land allocated for mosques in sectors I-12 and I-16 to their blue-eyed persons.

Similarly, the anti-graft body has also launched inquiry against Bank of Punjab President Naeem Uddin Khan and others. The accused were allegedly involved in changing prices of shares by the misuse of authority. There is also an allegation of inside-trading in the bank against the accused.

The sources claimed that the NAB Rawalpindi is also conducting an inquiry against Pakistan Ambassador to Cuba Kamran Shafi and others.

The bureau also started an inquiry against the officers of Federal Tax Ombudsmen and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The accused are allegedly involved in corruption and the misuse of authority. The inquiry against former minister for information and technology Anusha Rehman, former finance minister Ishaq Dar and former chairman Pakistan Telecom Authority Syed Ismail Shah and others in case of an illegal award of contract of the next generation mobile services was also under investigation.

The NAB Rawalpindi bureau has also launched a corruption case against former minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Director General of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Akhtar Ganjera and Deputy DG Mansoor Ali Khan for alleged corruption in different affairs of the board.
