Islamabad - Member National Assembly and Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Health Dr. Nausheen Hamid on Tuesday said that we are the elected representatives of the people and as always we will continue to raise the voice of public interest on every platform. Smoking is not effective for human health in any way. Tobacco is the first step towards drug addiction, we all have to work hard to save the future of the young generation and take practical steps to eradicate smoking.
She was speaking at a session organised by PANAH.
General Secretary Sana Ullah Ghumman said that PANAH is an organization that has been educating the people about heart disease for the last 37 years.
Smoking is a major cause of other diseases including heart and other diseases. According to a global study, tobacco kills 8 million people worldwide every year, while more than 1.5 million people in Pakistan lose their lives every year due to smoking. The tobacco industry sells six and a half trillion cigarettes worldwide each year.
(CTFK) Country Head Malik Imran said that various investigations from all over the world including WHO have proved that if the consumption of something is to be reduced then the practice should be implemented, but the tobacco industry is throwing dust in the eyes of the nation. We are not talking about ourselves but the public interest. We are hopeful that one day the law enforcement agencies will follow suit. The government should take steps to make the young generation healthy. Member National Assembly Uzma Riaz said that we are from Pakistan and its interests are dearer to us than our own lives. Factors that harm health must be prevented so that our nation can get rid of diseases.
Members of National Assembly Munawara Baloch, Aamir Naveed Jiva and others said that survival of Pakistan is our priority. It is the duty of the government to provide health, education and law and order. We will strive to be the voice of the people in the esteemed Parliament and the factors that are at stake for the future of our nation and especially the younger generation. PANAH Patron Major General (Retd) Muhammad Ashraf Khan said that simple diet, walking should be included in daily life. Eat simple foods, avoid smoking, sugary drinks, extra salt, so that a healthy society can be formed. At the end of the ceremony, he thanked all the guests.
