ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences ((PIMS) Friday held earth-breaking ceremony of Neonatal Surgery Department and inaugurated a park in front of its outpatient depart that has been developed with the donation of National Bank.Federal Minister for Capital Administration and Development (CAD) Nazar Gondal performed the earth-breaking ceremony of the first Neonatal Surgery Department for which the Ministry of CAD has donated initially Rs 10 million.  Pims Executive Director Dr. Riaz Warriach said that the hospital had paediatrics surgery department but there was no separate surgical facility for the newborns babies born with defects.   Pims Acting Dean Dr Amjad Chaudhry informed that with the award of the department status, it would become the first ever Neonatal Department of Surgery to give care to the newborns in the country. Jinnah Park that the minister inaugurated has been developed with the grant of Rs. 1 million given by the National Bank.The minister also announced to upgrade a primary Islamabad Model School situated in a colony of Pims into a middle school. He announced to allocate Rs 10,000,000 for the construction of the new building and for the induction of more teaching faculty.   Nazar Gondal speaking to the faculty of Pims said that the status of the hospital would be of an attached teaching hospital of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU). The establishment of SZABMU would neither change the name of the hospital nor its functions in any way, and the status of the medical university would be overarching academic body for award of degrees, diplomas and research in the field of medicine.
