RAWALPINDI - An abandoned bag lying here at Chungi number 22 Chowk, a place near General Headquarters (GHQ) and other military installations, spread panic among the commuters and passersby, reliable sources in security agencies informed on Saturday.

Within no time, contingents of police, bomb disposal squad (BDS) and officials of sensitive agencies rushed towards the scene, cordoned off the square and frisked the bag. This triggered a massive traffic blockade in the area.

However, the law enforces took sigh of relief after finding old clothes, knives, shoes and bangles instead of any bomb or explosive material from the bag.

According to reliable sources, a passenger hired a taxicab from Pirwadhai for Chungi number 22. The taxicab collided with another taxi at 7:30pm on Friday at the square and both drivers started quarrelling with each other, sources said adding that in the meanwhile the passenger disappeared leaving the bag in the taxicab. Sources said that the taxi driver placed the bag near booth of traffic police at the square and sped away. A traffic warden ranged up police immediately after seeing the bag.

The LEAs combed the nearby area with sniffer dogs and metal detectors and declared the locality clear near 12:30am, sources added.
