PESHAWAR - The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FPCCI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region and Peshawar Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industries (PCSTSI) have agreed to make vigorous efforts to resolve issues of small traders and industrialists, and demanded of the government to extend special incentives package and tax-concessions to terrorism-affected local traders and small industrialists of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The matter was discussed during a joint meeting of FPCCI KP region and Peshawar Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industries, held at the FPCCI regional office here on Saturday. Those who attended the meeting included FPCCI regional vice president Mohammad Adnan Jalil, ANP parliamentary leader in Senate, Senator Haji Adeel, Islamic Chamber president and Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Commerce, Senator Ghulam Ali, FPCCI former vice president KP region Fazal Elahi, Tribal Areas Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TACCI) President Rahatullah, traders leader Haji Haleem, Jan, president of PCSTSI Ihtisham Haleem, vice president Jahangir Ghofran, senior vice president Malik Inamur Rehman, leaders of small traders and union.

Senator Ghulam Ali, while addressing on the occasion, said that Peshawar small traders and small industries would play a vibrant and effective role for resolutions of small businessmen and industries in the province. He said the small businesses and trade activities had badly affected due to prolonged terrorism in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata, which has brought negative impact on economy, while it has also generating massive unemployment in this region.

The vice president of the Islamic Chamber demanded the federal and provincial governments to extend special incentives package and tax-concessions to terrorism-affected small traders and industries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata.

Senator Adeel said that they had made tremendous efforts for creation of Peshawar chamber of Small trader and Small Industries, despite bureaucratic hurdles and other issue in way of legislation and approval of this chamber. He criticized the role of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KPCCI) for failure to resolve the issues of small traders and industries. He further castigated that the KPCCI had lost its identity and role, due to monopoly of few influential people in the chamber.  

With the establishment of Peshawar small trader chamber and industries, Senator Adeel said they would make all-out efforts for reddressal of issues of small businessmen and industrialists. He asked the Federal government to give special relief and incentives to terrorism-hit small businesses and industries of Khyber Pakhtunkwa, to generate maximum employment opportunities there.

Besides, Ihtisham Haleem, president Peshawar Chamber of small traders and industries, said that the chamber would focus on basic issues of the small traders, like tax-exemptions, illegal professional, and property taxes, along with introduction of special social security program. He said the chamber would also establish a close liaison between traders and police department to ensure adequate security to markets and bazaars, amid deteriorating law and order situation of K-P.

He said the small traders would take on board in decision making process, and would devise policies in better interest of small traders and industrialists in the province. He criticized the KPCCI had always used small traders and small industrialists for its vested interest and didn’t take any practical steps for resolution issues of small traders on ground.

On the occasion, FPCCI vice president Adnan Jalil, former president Zubair Khan, leader of small traders Haji Haleem Jan, Fazal Elahi, Jehangir Ghofran, Malik Inanur Rehman, and others, vowed that they would make joint efforts for resolution of small traders and small industrialists issues.
