ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has a long history of ignoring talented players and pay heavily due to this attitude.

Pakistan cricket team is in dire need of a specialist opener since long, none of the players in the last decade or so managed to justify their place in the playing XI. So instead of continuing with same old policies, the PCB interim committee chairman Najam Sethi should reconsider outdated policies and provide opportunities to the deserving players who have proven at international stage.  Yasir Hameed, a gutsy opening batsman, who announced his entry to world arena with a big bang, hitting tons in both innings of his debut Test against Bangladesh in 2003 in Karachi, had scored fastest 1,000 runs in international cricket in Asia, a feat which even great likes Tendulkar failed to achieve. But Yasir is facing wilderness since long as he had played last Test way back in 2010 against England.

Yasir had played 25 Tests, 56 ODIs, with an impressive average of 33 in Tests and 37 in ODIs. He is a proven stuff and situation is tailor-made for a player like Yasir, who can hit lusty strokes to any given bowler and can help resolve batting woes of Pakistan team.

Yasir was the top scorer in the recently-concluded Domestic Twenty20 cricket with a whopping average of over 82,500 plus run in four-dayers and scored one century ton and three half centuries in one-day format. The most interesting and astonishing thing to be noted is that such a prolific player has yet to play a single Twenty20 international for the national team, which speaks volumes about the selectors’ inefficiency and incompetency who have been wasting natural talent.

Yasir is long-term solution to Pakistan batting in longer version and as good in the 50-overs game. Pakistan cricket team badly needs a player of a high caliber, keeping in mind biter reality that Younus Khan is not considered for 50 overs game and Misbah is at the twilight of his career, Yaisr's inclusion in the team will ease the burden on the middle order, as Hafeez can easily play at No 4 or 5. Yasir should have been part of Pakistan squad for the Twenty20 World Cup, as he had scored loads of runs in domestic T20 and the selectors had time and again retreated their desire that the players who perform in domestic level would be given chance, then why Yasir is being consistently ignored despite playing a number of brilliant knocks for the last many years?

What is the purpose of wasting such a God-gifted talent? Yasir neither has any Godfather nor backing of any influential, otherwise, he should have been playing for the national team on regular basis. Now Rashid Latif is all set to take over the role of chief selector and it is hoped that players like Yasir Hameed and others, who were long being overlooked, may get a fair chance to revive their international careers and play major role in taking back Pakistan cricket to the same heights, which once they had been enjoying.
