KARACHI - Religious clerics have assured support for polio campaign to officials of polio eradication committee.
Secretary Health Iftikhar Shelwani, Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui and Additinal Inspector General, Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo, who are the members of the committee formed by the Chief Minister Sindh for polio eradication, visited various union councils of city including Chisti Nagar and Gujro to inspect progress of Anti Polio drive.
On this occasion Commissioner Karachi administered polio drops to children. Focal persons of Provincial oversight and coordination committee Shehnaz Wazir Ali, CMs representative for Polio, Deputy Commissioner East Agha Pervaiz, DC West Muhammad Ali Shah, Executive District Officer (EDO) Health Dr Zafar Ejaz representatives of the WHO and UNICEF were also present. During visit of Chisti Nagar Commissioner and other members of the committee met the polio team members, community people and the Ulema.
While Ulema and community people assured to provide support for completion of the campaign. Town Health Officers were also given briefing about the progress of the campaign on this occasion. The Commissioner along with the Secretary Health and AIG Karachi also visited Minhaj-ul-Sharia Centre and thanked Maulana Muhammad Akber Rahimi and other religious clerics for their positive role in the polio eradication campaign.
Commissioner Karachi informed that this was the 4th round while government has planned for 7 rounds for in the 8 sensitive union councils of the city. Commissioner said that the steps would be taken to improve civic facilities in sensitive councils.
He assured residents and community leaders who were present that dispensaries would be established and water supply system would be established in these union councils.
