Punjab is called the ‘bread basket’ of Pakistan, with its green arable land and prosperity it is the heart of the country but it has an Achilles heel, South Punjab. All development has been directed towards Lahore and its adjoining areas and successive provincial governments only focused on specific portion of Punjab leaving Southern part under developed. This created a sense of despondency in the people of Southern Punjab. The demand for a separate province is the outcome of this deprivation but now the government has realised this. The government has started work on a network of roads and now construction of International Airport at Multan. These will auger well by boost exports, especially mangoes.
