A special court hearing the treason case against former president General (retired) Pervez Musharraf on Friday permitted the Ministry of Interior to revoke his passport as well as his national identity card.
Sources reported that the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Defence received formal requests from Musharraf on March 13 seeking provision of security. The former president had flown out of Pakistan earlier citing medical treatment.
Reportedly, Pakistani authorities are reviewing the plea forwarded by Musharraf.
Legal team of the former army chief said that Musharraf wishes to return to Pakistan and attend court hearings but there are security concerns.
On the other hand in an important development today, the court stated today that steps taken by the government in Musharraf’s cases are disappointing. The court directed Musharraf to file a reply with interior ministry within seven days.
The judge directed the government to mobilise resources to arrest Musharraf and present him in courts if he does not file a reply within the given time. The court ordered interior ministry to approach Interpol for Musharraf’s arrest.
The court further stated that Pakistan and United Arab Emirates (UAE) have an agreement over criminals’ transfer. The agreement could pave way for Musharraf’s arrest in Dubai and seizure of his assets there.
