KARACHI - The US interference in the process of reinstatement of judges has shattered the coalition between PPP and PML-N as Washington has serious concerns over the restoration of deposed CJP Iftikhar Chaudhry, said Justice (R) Wajihuddin Ahmed while talking to The Nation on Thursday. He said the US dictated the removal of judiciary to continue its so-called 'War on Terror' with active support of Pakistan and the Musharraf regime had held elections under the dictation from the White House. But, he added, after the polls, the US government created hurdles in negotiation between two mainstream political parties for the restoration of judges. 'Three beneficiaries, namely, the US, Pervez Musharraf and Asif Ali Zardari were behind the judiciary issue because deposed judges took suo moto action for missing people, who were kidnapped by secret agencies on the behest of the White House, for investigation and sent them abroad, Wajih said adding that Supreme Court had also accepted the petition against presidential election while PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari was acquitted in all corruption cases through NRO by the PCO judges'. He said the PPP had made it clear that all the PCO judges would be accommodated with the restoration of deposed judges and the PML-N showed its readiness to accept the PCO judges but refused to give them a status at par with the deposed judges rather advised for appointing PCO judges on ad-hoc basis. Wajih further said that PML-N has made a political mistake by giving option of ad-hoc judges, and accommodation of PCO judges, which would damage PML-N's popularity. He said N-League showed weakness in this regard because it had failed to convince PPP. He observed that "in my opinion there could be two reasons for disagreement, firstly PPP doesn't want to give complete credit to PML-N for the restoration of judges and secondly it wanted to woo the US to strengthen its grasp on the power". Wajih said that if the US influence would continue in the process, the deposed judges could never be reinstated and, on the other hand, if PPP restore them according to its own way and attach constitutional package with the proposed resolution than it would lead to total collapse of the PPP-PML-N coalition.
