Seminar highlights mediamen’s role in society

Swat - A seminar was held in University of Swat for working journalists of the city with the topic of “Community Media” here on Tuesday.
The participants acquired a wider perspective of their own role in a community media through different lectures of the speakers. About 20 working journalists took part in the event. The staff of the community media, Chairman Journalism and Mass Communication Department University of Peshawar Altafullah Khan was the guest speaker on this occasion.
He briefed the journalists how to work in community media, basic of community media, what is the role of community media, work of community media, responsibility of journalists in community media and shed light on aspects. Purpose of the seminar was to raise knowledge level of the journalists who work with the community and they should know the every aspect of the community media, that how should they highlight the social problems and how could be they solved.
On this occasion Vice Chancellor of University of Swat Dr. Jehanzeb, Registrar University of Swat Mahboob Ur Rehman Khan and faculty members of the university were also present on the occasion.
The speaker said during his lecture that the community media has the best agenda for change if the mainstream concerns persons are share the empowerment of media so problems will be solved easily at high level.
At the end of the lecture journalists asked several queries from the speaker and which was replied convincingly.
Meanwhile, the journalists asked the VC of the varsity that so far 7 billion rupees were released for the university development process but not a single project wasn’t initiated.
The VC said that a total grant for the university was 8 billion rupees which has not been released yet adding that we had requested the Higher Education Commission for the provision of building at immediate basis which bore fruits and they provided 1 hostel at Amankot and a building at Wadudia-hall block.
Dr. Jehanzeb further said that with the collaboration of UAE government and PARSA we have 1500 million rupees, which will be utilized for development of the university.
“We had funds but no land in this regard. I myself has requested the Chief minister for it as people of Swat have rendered innumerable sacrifices for peace as a result 1016 kanals were allotted at Charbagh”.
The VC pledged that he is here for the people of Swat and will leave no stone unturned for improvement of education system.
