PESHAWAR - The construction work on Shaukat Khanem Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Center in Peshawar will commence in September this year. The building will cost Rs 1.4 billion.
This was stated in a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amir Haider Khan Hoti on Tuesday. Participants of the meeting included Senior Provincial Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour, Provincial Health Minister Syed Zaher Shah, Secretary Finance Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad, Secretary Health Ashfaq Khan, Secretary Local Government Aurangzeb Khan, DGPDA Qazi Laeq, Chief Engineer Shaukat Khanem Memorial CancerHospital and Research Center and representatives of its administration.
Detailed briefing on progress on the hospital, funding situation, available facilities for cancer treatment in the hospital, designing of its building and other related matters were also discussed during the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, the CM said that serving ailing humanity is a collective responsibility and there must not be room for politics in it. He said that this hospital will be constructed for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said that government of the province is committed for this hospital and will extend all sort of assistance and cooperation as promised.
The CM also approved waiving off its designing fee Rs. 3 million payable to PDA and assured that he was committed and true to his words in connection with construction of the hospital. It merits a mention here that the provincial government has already waived off provincial taxes on the hospital.
The meeting was informed that the construction of building of the hospital will accomplish in three years and certain facilities of cancer treatment will be available upon completion of its first phase.
The meeting was further apprised that this hospital in Peshawar will has for more better facilities and needs compare to Shaukat Khanam Hospital in Lahore.
The administration OF the hospital declared that it has Rs 200 million for construction work. The CM hoped that cancer patients from other countries of the region along with from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will benefit from this hospital.
