Kashmiri elders including seasoned politicians, jurists and representatives of the people from diverse segments of the civil society have congratulated Nawaz Sharif and his associates over the thumping victory of Pakistan Muslim League-N in the general elections.

Talking to this scribe in his chamber here on Wednesday, ex chief Justice of AJK High Court Justice (Retd) Abdul Majeed Mallick said that it was a good omen as Mian Nawaz Sharif reiterated his traditional peace-loving approach in the region and towards the good neighbourly relations with India.

The Kashmiri leader emphasised that the main irritant between India and Pakistan is the Kashmir issue. Unless Kashmir issue was resolved according to the wishes of the people of Jammu & Kashmir, the good neighbourly relations between India and Pakistan, as wished by Nawaz Sharif would not sustain, he observed. “Therefore, it is imperative that both India and Pakistan should take positive steps to resolve the Kashmir issue in accordance with the international commitment and the wishes of the people of Jammu & Kashmir state.

Justice (Retd) Majeed Mallick recalled that the previous policy of Nawaz Sharif vis-à-vis the peaceful settlement of Kashmir dispute would have been allowed to sustain the lingering issue would have been resolved much earlier and the miseries and sufferings sustained by the people of Jammu & Kashmir would have been come to end by now.

He also appreciated the recent approach of Mian Nawaz Sharif to take positive steps to tackle major issues faced by Pakistan including the issue of Jammu & Kashmir.

Appreciating the clear-cut mandate of the masses attained by the PML (N) in the elections, seasoned Kashmiri political analyst and historian Ershad Mehmood said that the PML-N victory generated strong hope that they would move for making much-awaited amendments in the interim constitution of AJK – the Act – 1974  in order to empower the AJK Legislative Assembly and the government of Azad Jammu & Kashmir in letter and spirit.

Hailing the landslide victory of the PML (N) in the elections in Punjab and at the Center, Muhammad Mubeen Khan, Senior Vice President of the AJK Chamber of Commerce & Industry commented that the heavy mandate of masses clinched by the PML (N) in the polls was, in fact, the manifestation of complete trust and confidence in the able leadership of Nawaz Sharif, Nawaz Sharif.

Khan expressed the hope that the country would, indeed, get rid of the grim crises in various fields following the healthy policies of the upcoming PML-N government under the dynamic leadership of Nawaz Sharif. He hoped that the much-awaited positive impacts on Pakistan’s forthcoming speedy progress and prosperity after the emergence of the PML-N government would, indeed, leave positive and healthy signs on the progress and prosperity of Azad Jammu & Kashmir and most particularly towards the early settlement of Kashmir problem, he remarked.
