Sindh govt sets up Human Rights Commission

The caretaker government of Sindh has set up Sindh Human Rights Commission, said Mrs Anis Haroon, minister for women development and human rights.
She said that a law was passed by the Sindh Assembly in 2011 which came into force since May 1, 2013 after the approval of caretaker Chief Minister Zahid Qurban Alvi.
On May 9, the competent authority has notified the establishment of Sindh Human Rights Commission under chairperson Justice (r) Majida Rizvi. She was addressing the first introductory meeting of Sindh Human Rights Commission here at Committee Hall of Sindh Assembly on Wednesday.
Later, director human rights briefed the member about the functioning of Human Rights Commission and informed that HRC should inquire suo moto or petition presented to it by victims. No court shall have jurisdiction to entertain any proceeding or make any other order in relation to anything done or purported to be done under this Act.
No suit or legal proceeding should be against government, the commission or officers and servant in respect of anything done or purported to be done in good faith under the Act.
He elaborated that the commission would also formulate, implement and regularly update polices with a view to protect Human Rights. The meeting of commission should be held once in the three months.
Sindh Human Rights Commission fund should be established, which consist of grant-in-aid from government, endowments, donations and contribution from public, district government and other institutions.
