KAMALIA-Poultry farmers throw away dead chicken along the roadsides and near residences thereby creating terrible stench in the area.
Moreover, stray dogs and scavenging birds gather there and create problems for the citizens while dogs become rabid after eating the dead chicken. In numerous incidents, women and schoolchildren have been bitten by rabid dogs and taken to hospitals.
Civil circles of city have demanded effective notice of this situation by the administration. Different poultry farmers said that they cannot afford deep trench or waste disposal well as yesteryears they faced a slump in poultry industry. However, the rich farmers that can afford investment destroy dead chicken by throwing them in deep wells, they said.
No place has been allocated by the government in the city where dead chickens and their waste may be disposed of, they said. It is government’s job to allocate an area for disposal of garbage and then clean up that area, they said.
When contacted, Assistant Commissioner Khalid Chaudhry said that citizens should indicate affected areas and action would be taken against the responsible persons.
FLOOD-FIGHTING MEASURES REVIEWED
Director Local Government Faisalabad, Mian Muhammad Jamil visited TMA Kamalia and inspected flood-fighting arrangements and machinery. According to directives of the Punjab government, the Faisalabad LG Director paid the surprise visit to the Kamalia TMA to check prepared for flood-fighting and readiness of machinery put stand by to respond to eventuality. He expressed satisfaction over the measures chalked out to ensure timely action in case of flood and got firsthand information about related machinery. TMO Muhammad Nawaz Khan, Chief Officer Khalid Mehmood, Assistant Muhammad Arshad, Sanitary Inspector Rab Nawaz Khan and other officers briefed him about the working of different departments.
BUS STAND LACKS FACILITIES
The old general bus stand Kamalia lacks all basic facilities, causing numerous problems for the travellers.
During a visit to the bus stand, this correspondent learnt that more than 90 percent of the city’s population uses the old general bus stand for arrival and departure to rest of the country. However, there is no basic facility like there is no shade, seating arrangement or potable water facility available for the intending-passengers. The travellers are forced to stand for hours, in rain and extreme weather, wait for the bus to set off towards their destination. The women, children and the elderly have to suffer great ordeal, although they generate huge business for the transporters, nobody ever bother to facilitate them. The citizens have appealed to the authorities to provide all facilities at the general bus stand.
