ISLAMABAD - National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Tuesday met former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed the overall political situation in the country in the backdrop of the recent upheaval in the national politics due to Nawaz Sharif remarks about the Mumbai terror attack.
The meeting, which was held at the farmhouse of Abass Afridi, was attended by other senior party leaders including Information Minister Maryam Aourangzaib, former information minister Pervaiz Rasheed, Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Dr. Asif Kirmani.
The hostile line taken by Nawaz was supported by all those present in the meeting and it was also a consensus view of all that the narrative of restoring sanctity of vote and civilian supremacy was going well with the people and it would work as the winning chip for the party in the upcoming general elections.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq briefed Nawaz Sharif on the reaction of opposition parties in National Assembly to Nawaz Sharif’s remarks about Mumbai terror attacks. He informed Nawaz Sharif that the government would smoothly manage the passage of budget from the Parliament, which would pave the way for smooth transition of government to the caretaker setup and onward handing over of power to the new government after the elections.
Sources aware of the deliberations of the meeting informed that the views of some of the party leaders averse to the politics of confrontation was strongly rejected and it was decided that the high tide of hostile line taken by Nawaz Sharif would help them win the upcoming general elections and would pave the way for civilian supremacy.
