Militant outfit's man arrested; explosives recovered

ISLAMABAD The city police apprehended a suspect belonging to a banned militant outfit and recovered explosive material and weapons form his possession, police said. According to details, Shahzad-Town police arrested a suspicious person from Khana bridge and on the search police recovered explosives and arms from him. Police said that the accused had been identified as Hafiz Umar Farooq alias Hussain Ahmed hailing from Faisalabad. Police recovered one-kg explosives, one pistols along with 17 rounds from accused. A senior police official requesting not to be named said that the accused was apprehended the other day and during the primarily investigation he (accused) confessed that he wanted to kidnap some high-profile personality from Islamabad in a bid to get an arrested militant released. I wanted to abduct a high-profile personality from federal capital in a bid to release my friend namely, Hafiz Zarar, who is in the custody of Sialkot police, Investigation Officer while quoting the accused said. Meanwhile, Airport Security Force (ASF) arrested a passenger who was leaving for Birmingham (UK) and recovered weapon from him at Benazir Bhutto International Airport. An employee of ASF said, During the search of persons luggage we recovered weapon from him and further investigation is under way. When contacted Airport Police Stations picket the Duty Officer confirmed the incident, however, he said that the further investigation was underway from accused thats why he could not share any further information with media.
