Lecture India first

It has suddenly dawned on Special Representative Richard Holbrooke that the funding for terrorists come from outside Pakistan. It has taken the US a great deal of time to confess it so frankly because for a long time we have been hearing the Obama administration officials badmouthing Pakistan as the epicenter of militancy. If, on the other hand, funds come from abroad, then it follows that the Americans were wrong about their perception of Pakistan as the source of all trouble. Most importantly, this also bears testimony to the fact that certain foreign forces have been exploiting us for achieving their nefarious designs. Such statements, therefore, reflect that the Americans are all jittery as the date of troop withdrawal approaches and are consequently softening their criticism on our role vis--vis the war on terror. This would seem to be an opportune moment to resists US demands for starting a military operation in North Waziristan. The US must have realized that by attempting to subdue the Afghan people, through a bloody war, it was only trying to achieve the impossible. Graveyard of the empire, as it is called, tells us that nobody has ever been able to subdue Afghanistan. However, it is not the Americans alone, their partner in crime, Britain also seems to be experiencing a strong sense of dj vu. The underlying tone of regret and shame marking the words of Britains Chief of Armed forces David Richards that the military victory against Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan is impossible is a stark confession of failure of USs war on terror. Alongside the Afghan conundrum and blaming us for whatever is wrong with it, the US is urging us to improve our ties with India. The latest salvo has come from its Ambassador in Pakistan Cameron Munter reminding us that good relations with India could guarantee revival of our economy. Now how come ties would improve unless and until the core issue of Kashmir is resolved in line with the wishes of the people of the Valley? The US had better stop patronizing us and must realize that yet another reason why ties remain strained is the round-the-clock New Delhis finger-pointing at Islamabad for fuelling terrorism in India. It has been proved in a court of law that the attackers who blew up Samjhota express were extremist Hindus and not Pakistanis as consistently alleged by the Indian government after the gory incident. The US needs to lecture India first.
