Administrator visits Mehran Highway


KARACHI  - KMC Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed has said that the citizens using National would be facilitated with a well standard alternative route after the construction of Mehran Highway which would help in reducing traffic pressure on National Highway.The surrounding industrial and commercial areas of the National Highway would also improve business activities and trading delegations from foreign countries would have convenience in visiting Export Processing Zone.He said this while visiting Mehran Highway where he was accompanied by Director General Technical Services Altaf G.  Memon, concerned Chief Engineers and other officers.The Administrator Karachi said that the initial arrangements for Mehran Highway Phase-II had been made and tenders had been called for the construction of Mehran Highway Phase-II from Hospital Chowrangi to Port Qasim Road so that construction work could start immediately.He said that in second phase of Mehran Highway construction of 5km long road would cost Rs 450 million whereas the third phase of this road which would be 2km long and connect hospital chowrangi to Pakistan Steel.He said that before the construction of Mehran Highway the citizens had difficulties however, after the construction industrial area would develop and along with construction of highway nullah for drainage of rainwater had also been constructed.  He said the construction of Mehran Highway consists of 11km long road and a green belt in the middle of the highway was being constructed where tree plantation would be done.He said Mehran Highway was very important for Landhi Industrial Zone and Export Processing Zone and better transportation was very necessary for this important industrial area.The Administrator Karachi said that development works in Karachi were underway and various developing projects would complete by the end of fiscal year.He said that along with Mehran Highway Sharah-e-Quaideen, Hub River Road, Korangi Causeway, Shahrah-e-Altaf and various roads of Landhi Korangi were also underway which would be completed in estimated time.Director General Technical Services Altaf G. Memon gave a briefing and informed administrator Karachi that mehran highway was constructed on international standard and nullah along with this road was covered with RCC roof to ensure drainage of rainwater and exit of industrial waste and sewerage water.The Administrator Karachi directed to begin tree plantation along the road immediately so that citizens after construction of this road could have a wide and green corridor.
