Docs threaten strike during Ashura

QUETTA - Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Balochistan chapter, has threatened to boycott the emergency wards of government hospitals on 9th and 10th of Muharam if the kidnapped doctor of LRBT, Dr Saeed Khan, is not recovered.
Dr Saeed Khan, who is a prominent eye specialist and was also serving as medical superintendent of LRBT Quetta, was kidnapped on October 16 and is still missing. After the kidnapping of the senior ophthalmologist, the Balochistan PMA boycotted all the OPDs and general operation theatres in the state-run hospitals.
The decision of boycotting emergency wards on 9th and 10th Muharram was taken at a meeting of the general body of the Balochistan PMA with its president Sultan Tareen in the chair.
The participants of the meeting lashed out at the government during for its failure to provide security to doctors and the common people. They also lambasted at the provincial health minister for using derogatory language against doctors, saying it was a tactic to absolve himself of his responsibilities. They also demanded an apology from the health minister for using ‘contemptuous’ words against doctors.
Meanwhile, all the government hospitals throughout the province, including that of the provincial capital, remained closed as doctors’ strike entered 29th day. All OPDs and general operation theaters in Civil Hospital Quetta, Bolan Medical Complex, Helper Eye Hospital and other government-run hospitals remained closed.
