RAWALPINDI - District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar said on Thursday that special mobile teams have been constituted to vaccinate polio drops to the infants belonging to Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa (KPK) and Azad Kashmir arriving in Rawalpindi district.

“The district administration carried out strict monitoring for these teams and other mobile teams to administer polio drops to the children upto 5 years of age of the district that is why the district had been declared polio free for the last two years,” he added.

He said that hard work would be done in this campaign for further five years to make the district polio free and the vaccine given by the donor agency to be properly used.

The DCO said this while expressing views with a delegation of World Health Organization (WHO), which called on him at his office here on Thursday.

The delegation was headed by WHO Panjab Branch Head Dr Wendey. Executive District Officer (DCO) Health Dr Zafar Iqbal Gondal and other health department officials were present on the occasion.

The head of the delegation commended the efforts of City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) and the officers of health department for playing vital role to make the polio campaign a success and to save the children of the district from polio disease and any sort of disability.

He informed that WHO would continue the cooperation with the CDGR in this regard to keep this district polio free.

DCO Saqib Zafar thanked Dr Wendey and further informed that a special watch be kept on the high risk union councils during the campaign throughout the year and in those union councils where local languages were spoken other than Punjabi. He said that the interpreters always involved in the process to help the mobile teams to vaccinate children living in those areas.

Several meetings have been held to review the polio campaign from time to time and the polio campaign was continued with a gap of every three or four months on the direction of government and WHO, he added.

The DCO said that the officers of other departments besides health department and the volunteers of NGOs always be deputed to move from house to house to vaccinate the children up to five years of age to make these campaigns success.
