Five Utah high school students stabbed

Utah - At least five students were stabbed at a Utah high school on Tuesday and a 16-year-old male suspect was in custody, police said.

Mountain View High School in Orem, Utah, was briefly placed on lockdown. The incident occurred early in the school day, the Orem Police Department wrote on Twitter. One student is in critical condition, another is in serious condition, and three are in fair conditions, KSTU reported.

A school resource officer was able to apprehend the injured teenage suspect, who was also hospitalized, the statement read. Normal activities resumed on campus after law enforcement personnel determined the school was safe, according to the statement. However, parents concerned about their students could check their son or daughter out for the day.

More information about the stabbing was expected to be released at a news conference scheduled for 11 a.m. local time at Orem City Council chambers. Orem is located about 45 miles south of Salt Lake City.
