LAHORE - Police are yet to confirm the incident of pickpocketing at the funeral of PPP leader Jahangir Badar, as no party leader has contacted the city police for action.

A senior police officer yesterday told The Nation that no one filed any complaint with the police in connection with the despicable crime at Badr’s funeral.

“We cannot confirm the incident since nobody filed any such complaint with the police. We will investigate the matter when somebody approaches us,” said the officer, who preferred his name not to be mentioned.

According to reports in private TV channels, the PPP leaders including Khurshid Shah, Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah and Manzoor Wassan were robbed of their wallets and mobile phones when they were attending the funeral prayers for Jehangir Badr.

The prayers held at the Punjab university ground were attended by a good number of people including senior politicians, government officers, and religious leaders. Hundreds of police were on guard on the occasion.

Badar, who died of cardiac arrest late Sunday night, was laid to rest in Miyani Sahib Graveyard on Monday afternoon.

Official sources said that the PPP leaders did not take up such an issue with the provincial government yet.
