BAHAWALPUR-A tree plantation campaign began at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) in connection with Prime Minister’s Green Pakistan Programme.

On the direction of Vice Chancellor Dr Qaiser Mushtaq, its Estate Care Department and Farm Management Department have launched this plantation drive to plant 12,000 saplings in the campuses.

The VC inaugurated the campaign at Baghdadul Jadeed Campus. Parliamentary Secretary Ch Khalid Mehmood Jajja appreciated the tree plantation and termed it an example for others to follow that the Green Pakistan Campaign has been implemented at the University through active participation of faculty and students.

The vice chancellor said that fruit trees have been selected for plantation which will benefit the university having nutritional and economic value. The VC added that 74 percent of the area in Baghdadul Jadeed Campus that was barren and non-utilised, is being leveled for cultivation. Till now, 76 acres of land had been reclaimed for agriculture and research purposes, he added.

He lauded the efforts of university staff for making university campuses beautiful and environment friendly.
