KARACHI - Karachi Deputy Mayor Dr Arshad Vohra has said that members of the Sikh community are patriotic Pakistanis like other minorities and they have played a vital role in the progress and development of Karachi.

He expressed these views while speaking at a ceremony at the Guru Nanak Darbar at Swami Narain Temple in connection with the 548th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak. Sikh Council Chairman Sardar Ramesh Singh, Municipal Services Senior Director Masood Alam, members of the Sikh community and administrators of the temple were present.

On this occasion, Vohra paid a tribute to the founder of Sikh religion. He said, “It has been an old tradition here that we participate in religious festivals of the Sikh community and this tradition should be carried forward.” He said that Baba Guru Nanak gave message of peace and equality to human beings therefore he was called the messenger of peace.

The deputy mayor laid a shawl at the Darbar as a token of respect. Members of the Sikh community presented him a shawl as a gift on this occasion.
