Islamabad - The Senate Body on Federal Education recommended the concerned authorities to take measures in order to resolve the issue of Islamabad Law College students waiting for the announcement of results.
The meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education & Professional Training was held here under the chairmanship of Senator Rahila Magsi and the committee discussed public petitions on agenda regarding Islamabad Law College (ILC) and Institute of Space Technology (IST).
The petitioner Muhammad Akmal informed the committee that the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUoB) has withheld the result of 209 students from its affiliated institution ILC, putting future of the students at stake.
He said that result of the students of LLB Part-I annual examination 2016, has not been announced by the university, as the ILC G-11 campus and the IUoB are in a legal battle.
He told the Senate committee that the examination of Part-II are underway while the ILC students are still waiting for the Part-I examination.
“Each student paid Rs60,000 as a fee but now their future is hanging in balance because of the legal battle between institutions,” he said.
He also informed the committee that the students appeared in the part-I examination with the permission of the court. “When the students were appearing in their exams, ILC, IUoB and Higher Education Commission (HEC) were in court also, later the university announced the LLB Part-I but with the ILC result claiming that the college failed in fulfilling the criteria,” he said.
He said the Islamabad High Court (IHC) decided the case in the favour of IUoB, however, the ILC administration reached for Intra Court appeal against the decision.
He pleaded before the committee to take measures to release the Part-I examination result from the IUoB and allow the students to appear in Part-II exams through any other affiliated college with the university.
Chairman HEC Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmed briefed the committee that ILC had been facing the shortfall of students since 2012 when it applied for the No Objection Certificate (NOC).
He said the college despite getting a warning from HEC and IUoB kept announcing and admitting students. “ILC campus was declared illegal by the HEC in its advertisement and list of institutions available on the website,” he added.
He also said that the college was allegedly involved in issuing the fake degrees. Senator Nauman Wazir Khattak remarked that responsibility of students’ grievances completely falls on HEC as it failed in stopping such intuitions’ from working.
He said that the HEC should find make efforts for releasing the result of ILC students and arrange their assessment test from the third party paving their way to take admission from another college.
Senator Sehar Kamran remarked that the authorities must think about the future of the students which have been caught in the fight of the institutions.
Federal Minister for Education Muhammad Baligh ur Rahman said that students faced the difficult situation as the matter was in court.
He said that initially court allowed the college for examination but later the decision was given against it. The minister said that though it will be difficult for the university to step back from its previous stance regarding college future efforts will be made to facilitate the students. The committee recommended the ministry and HEC to consult IUoB to release the result of 209 students to secure their future.
In the meeting, it was decided that The Apprenticeship Bill 2017 would be passed after detailed discussion by the Senators, NAVTTC and education ministry representatives.
The minister for education speaking on the occasion said that new curriculum for the educational institutions was being prepared in which civic and democratic subjects would also be included to aware the students about democracy.
