CJP to take up cases at Lahore registry today

LAHORE   -  Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar will take up today various cases most of them in public interest including a petition seeking the disqualification of Zulfi Bukhari, the prime minister’s special assistant on overseas Pakistanis and human resource development.

The top judge has so far taken a number of public-interest cases at the Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry and ensured relief to the aggrieved persons who were early denied justice by different authorities. This has increased his popularity among the lower strata.

When the CJ hears cases in Lahore, aggrieved people along with written complaints, placards and banners inscribed with their demands thronged the apex court hoping justice after being becoming rolling stone between different negligent officials.

In a bid to provide relief for the oppressed people of the country, the chief justice of Pakistan has tirelessly and industriously been making strenuous efforts that are also acknowledged by the common public who term him the only ray of hope in a society where justice is normally denied to the lower strata.

Last Monday, the apex court issued notices to Prime Minister Imran Khan and other parties in the petition. A three-member bench headed by the chief justice accepting the plea for hearing had adjourned the same until today. The court had issued notices to PM Khan, Bukhari and secretary of cabinet division for today’s proceedings of the case in SC Lahore registry.

Bukhari is also facing an inquiry by the National Accountability Bureau in connection with offshore companies case. He also facing criticism from the PTI opponents on his appointment as special assistant due to dual nationality.

During the Monday’s hearing, the chief justice had remarked, “How the designation of special assistant can be equal to federal or state minister?” “According to the petitioner, Zulfi Bukhari posses dual nationality. Such a person can neither become a member of parliament nor a minister,” he added. He said, “Are the posts of assistants created for those who cannot become a minister?”
