NAB takes notice of non-functioning cameras in capital

ISLAMABAD   -  National Accountability Bureau Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal on Thursday directed complaint verification of non-functioning of 600 surveillance cameras of safe city project out of a total 1,800 cameras installed in the federal capital.

Taking notice of non-functioning of surveillance cameras, he directed NAB Rawalpindi DG Irafn Mangi to submit details of expenditures incurred on the project and details of start of the project and reasons of non-functioning of cameras. The chairman also directed the DG to investigate reasons of failure of the project to fix responsibility so that the lives of federal capital inhabitants could be made safer.

Earlier, State minister for Interior Shahryar Afridi had also admitted that 600 surveillance cameras were out of function on the floor of Upper House.

The safe city project was started in Pakistan Peoples Party’s last tenure and questions were raised on the cost of this project. Later, all 1,800 surveillance cameras were installed at different points of the city on the direction of former Interior minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan.
