Pakistan knocked out of Women’s World T20 by New Zealand

Pakistan Women’s team knocked out of the ongoing ICC Women’s World T20 after losing to New Zealand by 54 runs on Friday.

In the Group B match, Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first. Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates gave New Zealand a solid start but good bowling by Pakistan restricted them to 144-6 in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing a target of 145 runs, Pakistan were bundled out for just 90 runs in 18 overs. From Pakistan side, Captain Javeria Khan was the only notable performer with 36 runs off 23 balls.

Pakistan captain Javeria Khan said: “We have worked a lot on the batting since last year. The coach Mark Coles has been giving us clear plans and the girls have responded well. He brought new thinking and a new culture to the dressing room.

“The find of this tour was Umaima Sohail. Even though she didn’t perform as well this time, we have seen that she has the talent and the ability to absorb pressure.”

From Group B, Australia Women and India Women have already qualified for the semi-finals after winning their first three respective games.
