ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Imran Khan said Monday said the PML-N had a history of influencing the judiciary politically and now they would be trapped by themselves in a new conspiracy launched through former chief justice Rana Shamim against the judiciary.

“This party has attacked state institutions in the past,” remarked the PM while speaking at meetings of senior party leadership including legal experts at the PM Office here on Monday. The legal experts briefed the Prime Minister about the whole episode involving former Chief Judge of GB and former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar.

Legal experts Barrister Ali Zafar and Shahzad Akbar briefed the meetings about legal aspects of the disclosure of the former chief judge of GB and made it clear that an attempt has been made to free Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz but they would not be exonerated through such cases.

“The purpose of the affidavit submitted by Rana Shamim is to make the cases against Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz controversial,” Shahzad Akbar was quoted as saying by a source.

However, Senator Ali Zafar was of the view that this affidavit by the former chief judge was an attempt to influence the court, therefore, it is contempt of court.

Barrister Zafar Ali said that the PML-N must be held accountable for the contempt of court for affecting the judicial proceedings. “Political mafia could go to any extent to get escaped from cases, however, the matter is with the Judiciary which would look into this,” Prime Minister Imran Khan was quoted as saying in the meeting by the source.
