KARACHI - An exhibition featuring oil paintings of historical monuments by Hanif Shahzad with reference to everyday life titled " Karachi City of Lights" opened Wednesday. The showcasing of artwork has been organised at Clifton Art Gallery and would continue till October 31. Born and bred in old Karachi Hanif Shahzad has established his art credentials engaging pictorial renditions of urban antiquity in both water colours and oil paintings. Hanif Shahzad's paintings as a colourful album of inner city street life does not just exhibit his artistic prowess it also highlights that the artist as journalists, observer and chronicle can do much to record inform and entertain his audience. Venturing beyond the old city, he paints picturesque views of architectural splendour like the Empress Market area and Hindu Gymkhana, different views of Mohatta palace. Entirely without the human element, atmosphere in these works is evoked through adept handling of light and shade, natural foliage, terrain and resplendent skies.
