LAHORE - Habib Bank Limited President Zakir Mehmood met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif here on Friday and discussed distribution of Watan Cards among flood affectees. Provincial Disaster Management Authority Director General Khalid Sher Dil and HBL head of Retail and Consumer Banking Abid Sattar were also present. Talking to the HBL President, the Chief Minister said that the process of distribution of Watan Cards is underway in a transparent manner and so far 345,000 Watan Cards have been distributed in 11 flood affected districts of the province. He said that Bank Alfalah has also been included in the process along with United Bank. On HBLs desire to be a part of the distribution process, the Chief Minister directed the Chief Secretary to hold a meeting with HBL President and consider participation of the bank in the distribution process so that it can be completed speedily. He said that the Punjab government began relief activities for flood affectees from day one and after successfully completing the task of relief and rescue, the process of their rehabilitation has been started. He said that construction of model villages has been started with the cooperation of philanthropists and welfare organisations. He said that these model villages will be equipped with modern facilities. HBL President Zakir Mehmood said that the bank is distributing Watan Cards among flood affectees in Sindh and also wants to be part of the process in Punjab. He said that HBL has the capacity to distribute 5,000 Watan Cards daily. He said that Punjab is leading the distribution of Watan Cards and has distributed more Watan Cards as compared to other provinces.
