LAHORE Muhammad Yousuf played a captains knock to lead Lahore Lions into the final of the Faysal Bank Twenty20 Cup beating Shoaib Akhtars Islamabad Leopards by six wickets here at the Gaddafi Stadium on Friday. Islamabad managed to score 132 runs for eight. Only Fayyaz Ahmed stood on the crease for an extended period to punish the Lions bowlers with his 53. Azhar Mahmood (21), Umair Khan and Zuhiab Ahmed (14 each) and Imad Wasim (13) were the other scorers. Wahab Riaz ended up with three wickets for 26 runs while Abdul Razzaq, Shabbir Ahmed, Aizaz Cheema and Raza Ali Dar shared one wicket each. In reply, Lahore Lions lost their opener Nasir Jamshed at 18, who was sent packing Azhar Mahmood, who later took another key wicket of Umer Akmal and then of Azhar. From thereon, Yousuf reined supreme and also survived a chance to get unbeaten 57 of 48 balls. He also shared the third-wicket-stand of 103 runs with opener Ahmed Shahzed, who made 44 off 38 balls. In the process, Yousuf also smashed eight fours and two sixes. Razaqs innings lasted for just four runs and Yousuf and Raza finished off the match in 16.2 overs for the loss of four wickets. Interestingly, Azhars efforts, who took all the four wickets, were not enough to seal win for Islamabad. Big names like Shoaib Akhtar and Rao Iftikhar remained wicketless while Imad Wasim and Kamran Hussain were the other bowlers used by Islamabad captain. The final of the Twenty20 Cup will be played today (Saturday) and Lions were the first to reach the title race to take on the winner of the second semi-final between Rawalpindi Rams and Karachi Dolphins. Asad Rauf and Nadeem Ghouri will be the field umpires of the final while TV umpire will be Ahsan Raza with reserve umpire Anisur Rehman. Arshad Parvaiz has been named referee and Masood Ahmed is the scorer.
