LAHORE Against the backdrop of an expected showdown between the government and the judiciary, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on Friday warned that those planning an assault on the judiciary would not only fail in their efforts, but their fate would be even worse than that of Pervez Musharraf. In a Press statement issued on Friday, the CM said any conspiracy against the judiciary would tantamount to a direct attack on the Constitution of Pakistan and democracy. According to him, the PML-N is fully aware of its responsibilities towards supremacy of the Constitution and sanctity of the judiciary and will spare no effort in this regard. He asserted that an independent and free judiciary is of fundamental importance for democratic system. Shahbaz said people of Pakistan had rendered innumerable sacrifices for the revival of the judiciary and democracy, and knew fully well how to defend it.
