ISLAMABAD (APP) - Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik on Saturday said the Integrated Border Management System (IBMS) would be totally controlled by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and there would not be access to any foreign or alien agency. This software has been developed by National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and I guarantee that in this system no foreign or alien agency would have any access and even no one would be allowed, he said while talking to mediamen here at Benazir International Airport, Islamabad. The Minister said this is a home-grown software and it would be under total control of government and Pakistani agencies and added our data was compromised because Pakistan was using software of other country before, but now I am satisfied that the NADRA which was given the task, has developed the IBMS successfully. Replying to a question, Rehman Malik said he has given three months time to FIA to launch this system at Pakistan-Afghanistan border and added that the things required to start the system are ready and I am sure that FIA would initiate the work within the stipulated period. He said there has already been a system of bio-metric, so there would not be any problem to initiate the system from the border as this needs only upgradation. Border situation on Pakistan-Afghan is known to everyone what we are going to do is that the passengers would be electronically documented so as to monitor the movements, he replied another query. He said this system would help identify those who were criminals and at the same time to facilitate the normal passengers. There were around 45,000 to 50,000 movements of people at Pakistan-Afghanistan border a day. On a question about human trafficking, he said black sheep can be found everywhere, however, with the proactive measures, the government was able to control this crime. He said, earlier, Pakistan was under international watch list but now we have been included in the category -2 which was considered as good list. He said the officials at airports indulged in this crime were being taken to task and he was trying to enhance the number of female immigration staff at airport counters which was currently 70 per cent. It merits mentioned here that the IBMS has been installed at Benazir International Airport Islamabad and would be extended to other major cities of the country in phases. It would identify links between members of suspected groups and organisations and help tracked down terrorists and their travelling. Rehman Malik has said he would recommend Pride of Performance Award for those who have developed Integrated Border Management System (IBMS). He appreciated Chairman National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Ali Arshad, Deputy Chairman NADRA, Tariq Malik, Project Director IBMS, Ch Manzoor Hussain and their team for indigenously developing the IBMS software successfully. The system has been installed at Benazir International Airport Islamabad and would be helpful in keeping record of travellers and tracking down criminals.
