ISLAMABAD - Political leadership in Indian Held Kashmir (IHK) has slammed the Occupied Valleys Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for what they termed as yet another failure, after the discovery of unmarked graves in IHK, to bring the rape culprits to justice. In separate conversations with this newspaper, the Opposition Leader in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Mehbooba Mufti, Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Chairman Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Yasin Malik strongly took on Abdullah for not taking any action against the rape accused. The CM committed such a cruel folly when he disclosed the names and all the details of the innocent rape victims. As if it was not enough, he had the audacity to even disclose the home addresses of the victims. We are yet to hear about any action this so-called government has taken against the culprits, Mehbooba Mufti said. On the last months 28, the Jammu and Kashmir Home Ministry, under the direct supervision of the CM Omar Abdullah, had revealed the names and postal addresses of hundreds of female rape victims, most of which were subjected to physical abuses reportedly by the Indian security forces in IHK. Later, Abdullah had apologised for what was termed by the IHK leadership and opposition parties as a totally uncalled for act that 'rubbed salt to the victims wounds I tender an unconditional apology. There is a deep sense of shame over revealing the names of the victims. Under what circumstances these details have been revealed, I will look into it and will come back to the House, Abdullah had said in the IHK LA but kept mum over the issue thereafter. Mufti said that the IHK CM had visited the homes of the rape victims and had assured them of providing justice but to no avail. Perhaps for some skin saving after he had committed such a grave folly, Omar was kind enough to visit the victim families and assured them of justice which never happened. It only rubs salt to the victims wounds. We had hardly recovered from the shock we got from the discovery of unmarked graves and theres another bombshell she said asking the CM to resign. He is not fit for job after all what happened right under his nose. The data released by Abdullahs government suggests, some 1326 females were raped since 2006 while only one culprit was sentenced. When approached by The Nation, In Charge of CM IHK Grievances Redressal Cell, G A Wani said, The matter is subjudice. We are actively pursuing the victims cause in the courts and we hope the justice would be done. When asked to comment on the alleged apathy of IHK government to pursue the matter in the wake of only one culprit getting punished, Wani said, Thats up to the courts to decide not us. We can only take the cases to courts. Lets hope theyll make it fast. To a query on the involvement of Indian security forces in rapes, abductions, killings and unmarked graves, Wani refused to comment. Sorry I cant say anything. Like I said, the matter is subjudice. Earlier on August 21 this year, Jammu-Kashmir State Human Rights Commission (JKSHRC), a state-run fact-finding commission, had disclosed that unmarked graves containing bullet-riddled bodies of innocent Kashmiris were found in IHK. The Kashmiri leadership had strongly condemned it alleging that Indian forces killed the civilians. The puppet chief minister and his government can only make tall statements but their words are devoid of the will to do something, Yasin Malik said. We have moved every platform from United Nations to different humanitarian watchdogs but justice is nowhere to be found, he regretted. The violence in Kashmir also rises due to the silence of puppets like Omar Abdullah. It stands far outside his capacity to something for Kashmiris. He better quit, the sooner the better. Kashmiris need their true representatives at the helms of affairs. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that 10,436 Kashmiri youths were missing since 1989. Rapes, unmarked graves, tortures, detentions and what not You name any form of human rights violation and youll get it in Occupied Kashmir. The worst part is that there is a puppet CM who dances to the tunes of Indian establishment If the so-called CM could not provide justice to victims, why he gave them false hope?
