OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan has said that the proposed Defence Housing Authority Islamabad Bill 2007 to be presented in the National Assembly the day after tomorrow is against the rights of the people of Punjab. He added that Punjab government will lodge strong protest against this step of federal government and also challenge it in the Supreme Court. He expressed these views while addressing a press conference at party office on Saturday. He claimed that a conspiracy is being hatched to change the boundaries of Punjab through this bill. He alleged that Zardari, under the garb of this Bill, wants to accommodate his friend, a ring leader of land mafia. Sanaullah said that housing sector is a provincial matter which cannot be included in the legislation of federal list. He said that under the Defence Housing Authority Bill 2007, the scope of the authority will extend to Rawalpindi which will be a clear violation of the law and the constitution. He claimed that under this bill, the authority will have the power to get possession of any particular area whereas neither any compensation will be provided to the owner of the property nor he will be able to file an appeal against this excess. He alleged that Zardari is trying to accommodate those qabza group friends of land mafia against whom about six and a half thousand complaints are pending in various courts. He further maintained that ring leader of land mafia is often found in the Presidency. He said that Defence Housing Authority should be asked how it got 171 thousand kanals land, how many land was purchased from land mafia and how many persons have not been paid the price of their land. He said that under this bill, land of the real allottee can be cancelled any time or the constructed structure would be demolished and its cost would also be taken from the allottee. He said that a board of the authority has also been constituted in which no membership has been given to any civilian. He said that Punjab Chief Minister through a letter has informed the Prime Minister, Speaker National Assembly and Members National Assembly in writing about his reservations in connection with this bill.
