OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Continued police inaction and the brutality of a man took life away from a poor woman and made her two children orphans here on Saturday. The victim Riffat Bibi had contacted the Yuhanaabad police several times during the past one month and a half, telling them that her ex-husband wanted to kill her over the issue of divorce. She also sought police protection. Nothing was done by the police to save poor Christian womans life, a neighbour told this reporter. Nazir, her husband of just three months, went to the house of Bibis parents where she was living since her divorce from him, doused her whole body into kerosene oil and set her on fire. In critical condition, she was brought to the General Hospital by some neighbours, but the doctors pronounced her as dead. Riffat Bibi married her future murderer some four months back. Soon vicious quarrels began between the couple and she decided to get divorce. Later she started living with her parents. The accused, however, would continue visiting his in-laws and on occasions gave his ex some nasty thrashings, another neighbour said. Fearing for life, Bibi contacted the area police over and over again but they did not respond to her calls. The cops even did not consider registering her complaints against her ex-husband. Crushed: A ten-year-old boy was killed by a speeding tractor in Sundar area on Saturday.
