LAHORE - Punjab government has decided to revive the Horse and Cattle Show as part of the Punjab Youth Festival 2013.

While presiding over a meeting on Tuesday Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif gave approval to hold Youth Festival-2013 which will start from the first week of December. Giving approval of the Horse and Cattle Show, the CM directed to set up Youth Commission to polish the talent of youth.

He said that international matches of hockey, cricket and other sports should also be arranged during youth festival and renowned wrestlers associated with World Wrestling Entertainment be invited.

The meeting was also attended by Provincial Minister for Education and Sports Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Member National Assembly Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, Secretary Sports, DG Sports Board Punjab and concerned officers were present in the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that Punjab government is implementing a comprehensive programme for the promotion of healthy activities in the province under which not only youth festival but other competitions are included. He said that a network of playgrounds is being laid all over the province. He said that promotion of healthy activities is of vital importance in the present age of mental stress. The Chief Minister said that Pakistani youth are talented and new talent can be explored by promoting such sports activities.

He said that youth festival not only helps in promoting healthy sports activities but also discourages the trend of extremism. The Chief Minister said that Horse and Cattle Show has been a cultural tradition of Punjab, which, besides healthy activities also promotes trade and industrial activities. Therefore, it has been decided to revive this event.                       

Provincial Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan gave briefing to the meeting.

He said that competitions of various sports would be held at school, union council, tehsil, district, division, province and international level. He said that Guinness Book of World Records as well as other international institutions like Believe It Or Not will also review the world record to be set in the youth festival.

He said that the soft image of Pakistan would further be strengthened through setting new world records in the youth festival.
