ISLAMABAD - Eidul Azha will be celebrated across the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, with solemnity and religious fervor today (Wednesday). Security has been tightened across the country. 

Hundreds of thousands of believers will throng mosques and eidgahs to offer Eid prayers, after which animals will be sacrificed in observance of the Sunnat-e-Ibrahimi.

Prayers will also be offered for peace, progress and prosperity of Pakistan as well as welfare and affluence of the nation. Eidul Azha prayers would be offered in most of the mosques of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad early in the morning between 7:00 and 7:30.

Religious scholars from different schools of thought will deliver special sermons and lectures to highlight the significance of the day, and call upon the Muslims to follow the teachings of Islam in letter and spirit.

Meanwhile, strict security arrangements have been made across the country for Eid.

Law-enforcement agencies have beefed up security at public places, mosques and Eidgahs and important buildings to avert any unwanted happening. Policemen in plainclothes as well as in uniform will perform duties at Eid congregations for security of the faithful.

The Interior Ministry has set up a monitoring cell to monitor security situation and deal with any emergency situation. This cell will remain in constant contact with the provinces.

Meanwhile, eight cities of Punjab province, including Dera Ghazi Khan, have been under terror threats on the eve of Eid. Certain cities, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bhakkar and DG Khan, have been declared highly sensitive areas in the wake of growing incidents of terrorism. RPOs and DPOs of these districts have ordered to make foolproof security arrangements in their respective districts. Security has been tightened throughout Sindh including Karachi. Orders have also been issued for making fool proof security arrangements in different districts of Balochistan. Security has been stepped up in all the districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
