Local leaders of various political parties including PML-Q’ Pervaiz Elahi separately flayed the PML-N government, saying that it had completely failed in providing the people with relief, and had meddled in the demarcation of union councils across the Punjab.

Pervaiz Elahi, who is the Punjab president of Pakistan Muslim League-Q and former deputy prime minister of Pakistan, directed all the newly elected district presidents of the PML-Q to expedite contacts with the masses to reorganise the party.

He also issued these directives to Dr Taloot Saleem, former tehsil nazim of Sadiqabad, while appointing him as the PML-Q’s district president in Rahim Yar Khan. He told him that the PML-N got victory in the May 11 elections through rigging. For the last four months, he said, the present government had been dropping dearness drones on the public thereby making the people’s life miserable. He said that the people had fed up with the present rulers as they were praying for their early ouster from the government. He directed Dr Taloot to nominate PML-Q candidate in all the four tehsils of district Rahim Yar Khan and get prepared for the forthcoming elections.

Criticising the present government’s policies, PPP leader Abdul Rauf Solangi hoped that his party’s candidates would make a clean sweep of the Local Government elections in the country especially in Rahim Yar Khan district. He said that the present government’s failure refreshed the “golden” memories of the PPP-led past government. He said that the last government had taken steps on priority bases in the five-year tenure to rid the country of dearness, unemployment and terrorism. However, he added, the present government following hard on the heels of coming to power increased prices of various commodities especially petroleum products and electricity.

Likewise, Peoples’ Youth Organisation’s district president Khawar Bajwa said that the PML-N government had lost popularity among the people and was fearful of its obvious defeat in the Local Government elections. Therefore, he added, the ruling party meddled in the process of demarcation of constituencies for the polls. He said that according to the law, delimitation had to be announced on October 10 but the assistant commissioner had not made announcement in this regard so far revealing the government’s “pre-poll rigging”. He said that his party would move the High Court against what he said the illegal delimitations of union councils.

On the other side, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf city president Hafiz Nadeem said that the rulers’ face has exposed. He said that the government was continuing the last government’s policies while the people were starving for even two-time meal. The PTI leader said that new taxes on daily-use items were an act of cruelty. He added that the government was playing in the hands of the International Monetary Fund.

Another Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf leader talking to the media said that the government wanted to escape the Local Government elections but it would have to hold free, fair and transparent elections while the people would completely reject the PML-N in the forthcoming elections. Rafiq Haider Leghari said that the government had completely failed on all fronts, and added that it had pawned the national economy with the International Monetary Fund. By increasing petroleum products’ prices and electricity tariff, he said, the government dropped two dearness drones simultaneously.
