APWC for freezing prices of essential items

LAHORE   -  All Pakistan Workers Confederation has said that the federal and provincial governments should freeze the prices of the items of daily use in order to save the public from exploitation of hoarders and profiteers since the devaluation of rupee had raised the prices, particularly imported goods.

By a resolution, it demanded to the Chief Minister of Punjab to intervene and save the unemployment of workers employed in bricks and construction industry due to imposition of ban upon brick kiln and demanded that government should assist the owners of brick kilns to use the latest machinery free from hazard of climate.

These demands were raised in a meeting of large number of workers and trade union representatives held under the aegis of All Pakistan Workers Confederation at Bakhtiar Labour Hall Lahore.

Khurshid Ahmed, general secretary of the Confederation, demanded to the prime minister and provincial chief minister to raise wages and pensions of workers and restore the medical facilities to the workers on their superannuation under Social Security Employees Ordinance Scheme 1965.

The meeting was also addressed by Ms Robina Jamil, president, Yousaf Baloch, Akbar Ali Khan, Osama Tariq, Saeed Gujjar, Ch. Anwar and other trade union representatives. By another resolution, the house urged the federal government to provide housing and free standard equal education facilities to the children of the workers by utilizing the deposits worth Rs1 trillion and seventy billion deposits under Workers Welfare Fund Ordinance 1971.
